Drane Farm Equipment is located on our farm in Locust Hill, KY – 4.5 miles south of Harned, KY. Our business was started in the early 1970’s by my grandfather, R.C. “Bobby” Drane. Trading had been instilled in Bobby by his father, Vic, who traded horses, goats, pigs, etc. My Grandfather started with nothing and worked for everything he had. Bobby and his wife, Norma, saved every penny they could in order to build their farm into what it is today. The farm was Bobby’s main priority, but his desire for equipment trading wouldn’t go away. He would occasionally buy a few implements and tractors and line them up along the road. Thus, the business began. He sold new Vermeer balers in the late 70’s and then proceeded to sell used equipment through the 80’s and 90’s.
Bobby’s son, Bruce, began buying for the business in the late 80’s. Bruce’s buying and trading was responsible for the largest growth we had ever achieved. We kept this a part time business until June of 1999, when his grandson, Kevin, got involved in the business. A phone was installed in the shop and business hours were established. Bruce and Kevin made several changes to the business and it has flourished.
Bobby died in August of 2003. We continue to take pride in several things he taught us: Honesty, Integrity, and “sticking to a man’s word will always make things go the right way.” Later, Kevin moved on to his own business, and Bruce, Dayna and their other sons, Trent and Mackinley help continue the family business.
Drane Farm Equipment handles a large resale lot with asking prices written on each item. We also have several acres of salvage combine and hay equipment in the “R C Drane Salvage Yard”. Breaking salvage items down is a goal of ours for the future, but until then we offer farmers the incentive to remove the parts they need from the salvage yard at a fraction of the cost.
We invite you to come out to our location and see what we have available for your farming needs. You won’t be disappointed.
